Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa has recalled Ford Rangers sold in 2024 due to a fault. Ford said only around 25 vehicles were affected in Southern Africa (South Africa and Botswana). This follows a recall of six car brands by their manufacturers due to the risk of an accident or injury.

NCC Head of Complaints and Investigations Prudence Moilwa said this is due to the front lower control arm that may have been fitted on the left-hand side of the vehicle instead of the correct front lower control arm and this could lead to loss of vehicle control and possibly injury. “The separation of the joint may result in loss of control of the affected wheel, with the corresponding effect on the vehicle handling increasing. This may increase the risk of a crash or injury,” she added.

These vehicles were distributed nationally and exported to Namibia, Botswana, and Swaziland. NCC urged consumers to contact the nearest authorized dealership for an appointment to have the defect repaired. Ford responded by saying only around 25 vehicles are affected in Southern Africa (South Africa and Botswana). The NCC previously informed of recalled brands Jeep Wrangler, Chrysler 300C, Citroen C4, DS4, and DS5 models, Mercedes-Benz CLA (118), S-Class (model series 223), Audi, VW Polo Sedan and Volvo XC90. This was due to faults in the cars which could cause severe injuries.

Earlier this month, Ford Australia issued a recall for Ford Ranger and Everest models manufactured between 2022 and 2025. The total number of affected cars was 13,490. Reports stated that the defect would cause the left-hand engine camshaft sprocket to fracture. “A sudden loss of motive power whilst driving increases the risk of an accident, which may result in serious injury or death to vehicle occupants and other road users.”
