Petrus Bassion Mvala (47) was arrested in Coligny for the allegedly murdering of his ex-girlfriend, Binny King (34) on Tuesday, 24 December 2024.
Mvala appeared before the Lichtenburg Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 27 December 2024, and was remanded in custody until his next court appearance before the same court on Monday, 30 December 2024.

According to initial reports, Mvala allegedly called King to his vehicle, and they sat in the vehicle in Extension 3, Tlhabologang, near Coligny. She was then allegedly attacked and stabbed more than 15 times with a sharp instrument. She jumped out of the vehicle and was rushed to a local clinic, where she was declared dead shortly after arrival.

The Acting Provincial Police Commissioner, Major General Patrick Asaneng, condemned the incident and said Gender Based Violence is a profound and widespread problem, impacting almost every aspect of life. He said police will continue to address this problem and ensure that the perpetrator faces the full might of the law.
