According to a report by City Press, FirstRand Bank has served her with a notice to oppose mediation, claiming that she is in breach of a creditors agreement for failing to pay back R92 342.55. They entered into a credit card agreement with Lesedi in October 2023, but it had to cancel the card after she failed to settle the debt timeously. “Matsunyane-Ferguson did not raise any query in writing regarding the transactions reflected on the statements. She breached the terms and conditions of the credit card agreement and due to the breach, the bank has suspended and subsequently cancelled the credit facility, and as the result of her breach the full outstanding balance is due,” reads the bank’s claim.

The publication stated that the bank filed papers in the Johannesburg High Court on 9 May and wants the court to order to have her assets auctioned should she fail to settle the debt. The court papers claim reads that she would be liable to pay interest to the bank in respect of each transaction…the applicable rates would be set out in her monthly statement which would be made available to her via the bank’s online channels. They also cite that they opted for legal action since the matter is not pending at the debt counsellor.
