The wife of Dr Samuel Mokgethi Motsuenyane who is the founder of African Bank has died.
Nomgcibelo Jocelyn Motsuenyane (92) died on 10 May. The Dr Sam Motsuenyane Foundation confirmed the news expressing their grief. “It’s with great profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mme Nomgcibelo Jocelyn Motsuenyane, beloved wife of the late the Dr Sam Motsuenyane. Mme Motsuenyane departed in the early hours of 10 May, merely hours after bidding farewell to her husband of 70 years,” the foundation spokeswoman, Ntlotleng Manale said in a statement.

Manale said Mme Motsuenyane’s death marked the end of an era for the family. “In honouring Koko’s life and legacy, the funeral service will be held on Wednesday, 15 May, at 7 am at the Akasia Community Hall. Following the service, she will be laid to rest alongside her beloved husband at Zandfontien Cemetry. May her soul find eternal peace and may her memory continue to inspire the family,” said Manale.

Dr. Samuel Motsuenyane, a founding member of Nafcoc in 1994 a key figure in establishing the African Bank and a champion of entrepreneurship and ethical business conduct. As African Bank’s founding chairman, he initiated the establishment with a modest R70 and launched its inaugural branch in 1975. President Cyril Ramaphosa has expressed heartfelt words of tribute for the late Dr Sam Motsuenyane, lauding him as a pioneering figure in business, agriculture, philanthropy, and the founding father of the African Bank.
