Proudly South African is thrilled to announce the extension of entries for the Local Fashion Police campaign which was launched on the 4th of August 2023.

This follows the overwhelming response from South Africans nationally who have taken social media by storm to showcase their love and appreciation of the local fashion industry. The fashion-focused campaign was first launched in 2021 to encourage consumers to share their love and support for the clothing, textile, footwear, & leather sector.

This year, the Local Fashion Police campaign has Palesa Mokubung, JJ Schoeman, Otsile Sefolo, and Gert-Johan Coetzee as the campaign judges who will undertake a judicial role in ensuring the right fashion culprits are apprehended and walk away with R20 000 worth of fashion from each Judge.

In a world where fast fashion has overshadowed the local fashion industry, through the Local Fashion Police campaign, Proudly SA seeks to demonstrate the role and impact all consumers play in ensuring the industry continues to retain and create jobs while sustaining the lives of many South African homes. Additionally, the Local Fashion Police campaign showcases the creative diversity and talent of known, as well as many unknown local designers who contribute to stimulating the economy and creating jobs.

CMO of Proudly South African, Happy MaKhumalo Ngidi emphasizes: – “South Africa’s rich history of fashion has evolved through time and given ode to by local fashionistas through phrases such as “ukujuwisha”, which means to dress stylishly and fashionably, to describe a person’s style. These days the youth talk about “drip, threads, or swag”. Whatever you call it, this year the Local Fashion Police judges; Gert-Johan Coetzee, Otsile Sefolo, JJ Schoeman, and Palesa Mokubung are looking for South Africans who embody their unique style and love for local fashion in their everyday lives.

Proudly South African believes in the power of fashion not only to express individual style but also to empower the many men and women who are creating garments from their homes or shops in the nooks and crannies of their specific communities. Supporting the local network of designers, a street away from you helps to keep food on the table and the vast value chain of the fashion industry growing. By showcasing locally made garments, participants in the Local Fashion Police competition will not only celebrate their individual consumer style but also contribute to the growth and sustainability of local fashion industries”, concludes Ngidi.

The competition deadline is now the 26th of September 2023 at 23:59. Proudly South African is calling on all consumers who believe in the local movement to enter and stand a chance to be named one of the four 2023 Local Fashion Police winners who will walk away with R20 000 worth of fashion.
