Busisiwe Lurayi’s father Freddie Mokoena, bid his daughter farewell for the last time and spoke about how he found his daughter on Sunday before paramedics pronounced her dead.
“I’m weak but I’m not going to fall. The diva is not gone. The diva will forever be in my heart. The diva will forever be with Ayana. Gogo Lurayi, Gogo Mokoena, she is not gone, she is always with us. She will remain with us. I’ve always heard people say I want to be buried by my child.  I never understood that until today. When I look at her I would’ve loved to go while she was with me, but God has decided his plan. We plan things and God plans the other way,” he said.

“Life sucks. I’m telling you life sucks. I’m weak but I’ll walk up the long way with her. I thank you for being with us. I thank you for being the people who looked after her and I’m sure she was a mouthful. She was high maintenance but I apologise. Thank you very much,” he added.

“I hate it, I hate that I had to see my daughter laying down and I couldn’t do anything, but I know wherever she is she knows if I had the time I would be able to do something for her.

A day before the funeral at her memorial service held at The Market Theatre on Tuesday, friend and former co- star Warren Masemola couldn’t hold back tears and told mourners that Busi showered him with love that was very natural since the first day they met on set for Ses’Topla.

Sonti Lurayi, who was a mother-figure after her mother Sandra Luray passed on, said on July 10, when she called Busi her phone rang unanswered.
“It was very uncharacteristic of her, not only to not answer a call but to have her phone on silent for a longer period. You heard Busi loved having long conversations and the best way to have constant conversation with us was through the phone.” she says.

“I got a sense that I truly cannot explain to drive to her house and I acted like a lunatic aunt when I started hooting like a taxi driver, and I didn’t stop until I called Freddie to ask him when last he spoke to Busi. I asked where Ayana was and he said she was with him. Part of me relaxed when he said that because if Ayana was fine, therefore in my mind I was convinced Busi was safe too. An instinct kicked in for Freddie to drive through. This man jumped a wall to get to his daughter. He jumped over the wall, got his spare keys and opened the house.”

Busisiwe leaves behind her daughter Ayana.
