This year the world faced one of the biggest challenges with the arrival of the Covid-19 pandemic, with nations around the globe literally shutting down for months. For an art form that depends on human contact, between musicians improvising on stage, and by their interaction with their audience, this posed many challenges.
The Standard Bank Jazz Festival, Makhanda (Grahamstown) is pleased to be able to offer a virtual version of the festival.
This year, for its 33rd year running, the festival will operate on a virtual stage.
The Standard Bank Jazz Festival, Makhanda sees this as an opportunity to expand its reach and will have normal audience support bolstered by those who can watch online from around the planet.
While the lineup remains predominantly South African, ensuring that a large number of local musicians, their livelihood curtailed by the pandemic, get an opportunity to present their work. British multi-instrumentalist Jacob Collier,25, who is transforming the nature of music in real-time as the world watches on the internet.
