Mzansi was blown away by the powerful voice that featured in DJ Zinhle’s hit Umlilo.
Singer, Songwriter guitarist, and dancer Rethabile Khumalo (25) followed up with the release of singles Hlonipha and Genesis currently selling like hotcakes.
But with all the success and fame; Rethabile has been forced to take stock of her life after a tragic car accident.
Not long ago, veteran singer and her mom, Winnie Khumalo announced on social media that the Rethabile had been involved in a car accident.
She still struggles to speak about the incident and what took place but she is recovering well.
“It was a horrific experience which I don’t really like speaking about. It still terrifies me. I’ll one day find the courage to talk about it. I’m just glad I made it out alive,” she tells BuzzLife.
Rethabile has been discharged from the hospital and back home with her family.
“It feels good to be home with my whole family and healing. It could have been worse. I’m grateful to God almighty who gave me another chance to continue with my journey in life and I want to thank my fans and every person out there who kept me in their prayers and wished me a speedy recovery,” she says.
Rethabile co-owns WinnKay Music Records & Management with her mother Winnie Khumalo.
“I love working with my mother. She has been my pillar of strength since day one. I am grateful to have a mother who is so knowledgeable about the music industry, hence I call her my walking dictionary,” she says.
“She is my first point of contact when I need to make a decision.”
While other celebrity kids had it easy climbing up the ladder, Rethabile says she worked hard to get to where she is today.
“I started as a backup vocalist for my mom. I was also a showgirl at Monte casino’s Cantare and I also tried my luck on Idols SA season eight and nine,” she says.
But she does not regret a single moment of her hustle.
“Not having it easy taught me resilience and that working hard is the solution,” she says.
While she waits for the lockdown to be lifted and to return to gyrating on stage, Rethabile is taking time out to fully recover from the car accident and to make more music.
