South African Police Service (SAPS) members responded to a shooting incident at a residence within the South East Village estate in Komani this morning, where Mr Xoliseka Lali, the Chief Whip of Emalahleni Local Municipality under the Chris Hani District was fatally wounded.
According to reports, the wife of the deceased attempted to contact her husband in the early morning hours without success. Concerned, she requested her brother-in-law (the deceased’s brother) to check on him at the apartment.
Upon arrival, the brother found the security gate and front door open. Inside the passage, he discovered a live round of ammunition. Proceeding to the bedroom, he found his brother lying on the bed with multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body and back.
The motive for the murder is currently unknown. Police are actively processing the crime scene and investigating the circumstances.
