Johannesburg traded its usual red-carpet glamour for something a little more futuristic on Thursday night, as Netflix celebrated a decade in South Africa with a star-studded 10-year anniversary celebration and slate reveal at Divine Sunset in Midrand.
And the fashion brief was anything but ordinary.
With the theme “Tomorrow’s Black Tie. The future has a dress code,” celebrities and industry heavyweights were given licence to ditch predictable formalwear and reimagine what black tie looks like for the next generation.
Guests embraced the brief in different ways, mixing classic black-tie glamour with contemporary African fashion, dramatic silhouettes, sharp tailoring and statement accessories.
The result was less traditional red carpet and more futuristic fashion showcase, with celebrities using the occasion to make bold style statements while celebrating a decade of Netflix’s presence in South Africa.
From sleek suits and structured looks to glamorous gowns and fashion-forward interpretations of eveningwear, the night proved that black tie does not have to mean predictable.
The celebration also marked Netflix’s continued investment in South African storytelling, with the company unveiling its latest slate of local productions and giving the entertainment industry another reason to celebrate.
