Producer and DJ AirBurn Sounds is bringing together some of Amapiano’s exciting contemporary voices and renowned producers with the release of his latest single, ‘Ubani Lo?’
The high-energy dance track features Mellow & Sleazy, Predope The Vocalist, CPT Switch and A.M.U.X, and is set to give audiences a first taste of a bigger musical chapter for AirBurn Sounds.
Released through his label Airburn360, the single is scheduled to hit streaming platforms on 25 September 2026.
‘Ubani Lo?’ is built around the mystery of a gorgeous, confident woman who appears completely untouchable. Driven by smooth grooves, infectious percussion and an energetic bounce, the song captures the curiosity of being drawn to someone you simply cannot figure out.
The title translates to “Who is this?” in isiZulu and reflects the playful, flirtatious energy of the track.
A collaboration built on chemistry
The single also continues AirBurn Sounds’ creative relationship with Amapiano duo Mellow & Sleazy.
The artists have previously worked together on several tracks, including ‘Amahemhem’ and ‘Shashalaza’, with more collaborations featured on his upcoming project.
Mellow & Sleazy have become recognised contributors to the modern Amapiano sound through their energetic production style and ability to create music that connects with dancefloors.
“There is a natural chemistry whenever we work with AirBurn Sounds. We already understand each other creatively, so the process becomes about pushing the sound forward rather than trying to force a collaboration. ‘Ubani Lo?’ has that energy – it is fun, it moves and it feels like something people can really get behind,” said Mellow & Sleazy.
AirBurn Sounds said the collaboration allowed them to build on an already established creative relationship.
“Mellow & Sleazy are artists I respect because they understand the culture of the sound while constantly finding ways to make it move. We have worked together before, so there is trust there. With ‘Ubani Lo?’ we wanted to take that relationship somewhere fresh and create something that feels immediate, energetic and authentic,” he said.
Making room for the next generation
The single also introduces a generational element through CPT Switch, an emerging artist who is steadily making his presence felt.
For the young artist, sharing a record with more established names represents an opportunity to learn while introducing audiences to his own sound.
“Being part of a record like ‘Ubani Lo?’ is special because I am sharing a space with artists who have already made their mark, while also getting the opportunity to show what I can bring. For me, it is about learning, contributing and making sure people remember my voice when they hear the song,” said CPT Switch.
Predope The Vocalist and A.M.U.X add further character to the collaboration.
Predope brings a melodic dimension to the record, while A.M.U.X contributes another layer to the collective sound.
“‘Ubani Lo?’ gave us the freedom to have fun. It is a song that does not ask you to overthink it. You hear it and you want to move. At the same time, there is a lot of character in the different voices coming together, which is what makes the record exciting,” said Predope The Vocalist.
A.M.U.X added: “The beauty of this record is that everyone brings their own identity, but nobody is fighting for the same space. That is what makes a collaboration work. You can hear the different personalities, but the song still feels like one complete experience.”
Taking the sound to Alexandra
The release will be followed by the debut of AirBurn Thursdays (Live Mix) at Ko-9 in Alexandra on 24 September.
The event will serve as the live introduction to ‘Ubani Lo?’ ahead of its official release the following day.
For AirBurn Sounds, Alexandra is more than simply the location of the event.
Established in 1912, the township has played an important role in Johannesburg’s social and cultural history. It also has a personal connection to the artist, who spent some years of his life there.
Although born in Ebony Park and rooted in Limpopo, AirBurn Sounds says his experiences in Alexandra helped shape his understanding of music and township culture.
“Alexandra means something to me. I spent some time there, and those experiences became part of who I am. A lot of what influences my music comes from places I have lived in, people I have met and the energy I experienced growing up. So to introduce this new chapter there feels right,” he said.
His musical identity has been shaped by the different environments he has experienced, bringing together township culture, traditional influences, electronic production and the evolving sounds of Amapiano.
The beginning of a bigger story
‘Ubani Lo?’ is being positioned as the first major taste of a full project from AirBurn Sounds, which is expected to arrive two months after the single.
Rather than standing alone, the single forms part of a wider rollout that will explore his musical identity, creative relationships and the influences that have shaped his journey.
“The upcoming project is very personal to me. I have taken a lot from the places I have been, the people I have worked with and the different stages of my career,” said AirBurn Sounds.
With its mix of established producers, emerging voices and a strong connection to township culture, ‘Ubani Lo?’ sets the tone for what AirBurn Sounds says will be a significant new chapter in his musical journey.
