Kim Kardashian is mourning the devastating loss of her beloved grandmother, Mary Jo “MJ” Shannon, who has died at the age of 91.
The reality TV star and business mogul took to Instagram to pay an emotional tribute to the woman she described as her “best friend” and “forever twin”, sharing a collection of cherished family photographs spanning decades. MJ, the mother of Kris Jenner, was a familiar face to millions of fans through Keeping Up with the Kardashians and The Kardashians, where her wit and close bond with the family made her a fan favourite.
In her heartfelt message, Kim wrote: “My sweet Grandma MJ, my best friend, my gossip buddy, my forever twin. You taught all of us the importance of family, and those values are something we’ll carry with us forever!!!!! You were the woman who showed me what it meant to be a hardworking businesswoman.”

She continued: “You always believed in me, championed me and were my safe place. I know you’re at peace now, reunited with Grandpa, and I already miss you more than words can say. You will always be a part of me. I love you forever.”
The touching tribute came shortly after Kris Jenner announced her mother’s passing, describing MJ as “the heart of our family” and thanking her for instilling values of love, kindness and resilience in generations of the Kardashian-Jenner clan.

The family tragedy comes only days after the death of longtime celebrity bodyguard Mason Haynes, who worked with the Kardashians for years and was part of Kim’s security team following her infamous 2016 Paris robbery. Haynes died in a road accident at the age of 52, prompting tributes from colleagues and celebrities who remembered him as a respected and dedicated security professional.
MJ’s passing marks the end of an era for the Kardashian-Jenner family. Beyond her appearances on television, she was widely credited with inspiring Kris Jenner’s entrepreneurial spirit and remained a constant source of support and guidance to her children and grandchildren throughout her life.
