KwaMaphumulo-born musician Intabayasedubai is marking a major milestone in his career as his hit single Angimbonge Umdali surpasses 1.8 million streams on Spotify, while preparing to release his new album, Aphile, on Friday, 17 July.

The project celebrates a decade since the singer first entered the music industry in 2016 and serves as both a thank-you to his supporters and a deeply personal tribute to his first-born son, after whom the album is named.

Raised in the rural community of Maphumulo in KwaZulu-Natal, Intabayasedubai has built a loyal following through music inspired by everyday life and the experiences of ordinary people. Although he has remained rooted in his hometown, his music has reached audiences far beyond the province over the past 10 years.

Speaking about the success of Angimbonge Umdali, the artist said the song came together effortlessly and arrived at a time when he needed it most.

“One of those songs that comes naturally, doesn’t sweat or crack my head. I heard a voice that said to sing and words came naturally. You would swear it’s a personal situation. One of those that saves your life after going through a lot,” he said.

He described it as the best song he has recorded, adding that listeners have found it easy to relate to despite it not being based on his own life.

The song was created alongside his longtime collaborators, producer DeeR and his beatmaker, a partnership that has been behind much of his music over the years.

Reflecting on the streaming milestone, Intabayasedubai said it restored his confidence after moments of self-doubt.

“It felt very special to me after thinking that music will not work for me ever again. I believed in my work again,” he said.

His new album, Aphile, carries even greater personal significance. Named after his son, the project is dedicated to him as a lasting symbol of love.

“I named it after my son (first born) Aphile to honor him. It’s the way of showing love and how important he is to me. I want him to always remember,” he said.

The musician also described the album as a gift to fans who have supported him throughout his career.

“It is a gift to people who listen to my music as I’m celebrating 10 years of releasing good music,” he said.

While many listeners assume his songs are autobiographical, Intabayasedubai said he focuses on telling stories inspired by shared experiences rather than his own personal life.

“I don’t write about my personal life, I always share experience,” he explained.

The album features emerging artist B.O, whom Intabayasedubai is mentoring under 3 Point 7 Entertainment, while DeeR once again handled production duties.

Following the release of Aphile, the singer plans to keep the momentum going with his next single, Chappies, featuring Young Zesh.

With a decade in the music industry behind him and one of his biggest songs continuing to attract listeners, Intabayasedubai says he is entering the next chapter of his career with renewed confidence, determined to continue making music that inspires, heals and connects with audiences.
