Amapiano heavyweight Kabza De Small left fans in Nairobi disappointed after pulling out of his highly anticipated performance at The Darque Experience on Saturday, saying he was unable to travel due to illness.
The award-winning producer, whose real name is Kabelo Motha, was billed to headline the event alongside, Darque, Kitchen Mess, Amo Africa, Gathoni, Kuzo, Dylan S and Euggy.
Fortunately for fans, the event was able to continue after Amapiano star Felo Le Tee stepped in as a replacement. Organisers said Kabza De Small’s team informed them in time that he would not be able to travel due to illness, allowing them to quickly secure Felo Le Tee to headline the show instead. The last-minute change ensured the Nairobi crowd still got a major South African Amapiano act, with organisers thanking both artists’ teams for handling the situation professionally despite the unfortunate circumstances.
In a statement issued by his management, Lawk Communications, Kabza apologised to fans and everyone involved in the event.
“To my beloved fans Due to unforeseen circumstances beyond my control, I was unable to perform at The Darque Experience in Nairobi, Kenya, scheduled for 11th of July 2026. I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused to the event organizers, their sponsors, and especially my supporters. I truly appreciate the support and understanding, and I’m looking forward to seeing you all soon.”
Event host Darque also addressed fans on social media, revealing that Kabza had become seriously ill.
“My sincere apologies to the people of Nairobi. I come bearing not so good news. We just found out that my brother @kabelomotha_ is really unwell. So much so that he won’t be able to make it to tonight’s dance. This is truly beyond our control and we have tried everything we could to get him here. I am sorry guys! I am as gutted as you are! Get well Motha! Not all is lost though as I have a special surprise to try and make it up to the people of Nairobi. More on that shortly. Thank you for sticking it out with The Darque Experience! The party continues!”
The organiser stressed that Kabza’s absence was completely outside their control and that every effort had been made to get the musician to Nairobi before the decision was made for him to miss the show.
While fans wished the star a speedy recovery, the latest cancellation has again brought attention to Kabza’s history of missing performances. Over the years, he has developed a reputation for late arrivals, last-minute cancellations and failing to pitch for some booked events, with promoters and fans on several occasions expressing frustration after travelling long distances or buying tickets specifically to see him. Although some missed appearances have been blamed on illness, travel complications or logistical issues, others have fuelled criticism from sections of the entertainment industry, who say the producer’s reliability has at times overshadowed his undeniable talent.
