Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) spokesperson Sinawo Thambo has issued a public apology to Patriotic Alliance (PA) deputy president Kenny Kunene after linking him to murder accused Katiso “KT” Molefe.
In several posts on social media, Thambo stated that Kunene paid R400 000 bail for murder-accused Katiso Molefe. He claimed that the funds came from an awarded bus operating tender through the Rea Vaya transport system.
He said Kunene visited Molefe’s home on two occasions.
Thambo also accused President Cyril Ramaphosa of reinstating Kunene as Johannesburg’s transport MMC despite these alleged links to Molefe.
Through his legal team, Kunene gave Thambo 48 hours to retract “defamatory” social media posts or face legal action.
Kunene accused Thambo of making false claims about his involvement in criminal activities and corruption, which he says have harmed his reputation.
His lawyers have denied the claims as they “contain unsubstantiated allegations of unlawful conduct and criminality” and that the EFF MP’s comments are crafted to incite the public and tarnish Kunene’s reputation.
“Our client is a respected public servant and businessman. He currently holds office in the City of Johannesburg. The posts in question are not only false but have directly harmed his dignity, reputation, and standing in society.”
In the early hours of Tuesday morning, October 14, Thambo posted his apology.
“I withdraw posts made on 8 and 10 October 2025 about Mr Kenny Kunene and apologise for any harm caused. Ends.”
