Seasoned actress Nolwazi Shange is currently dealing with a legal matter where she is accused of pocketing R700,000 in a casting scam through the Queen Modjadji production.

The former Rhythm City actress was arrested and let out on R5,000 bail while the investigations continue. Shange appeared at the Brixton Magistrates’ Court on Friday and her case has been postponed to 25 September while investigations continue. Shange was accused of stealing R700,000 from a casting company while working as a director on Queen Modjadji. She allegedly changed banking details on invoices to pocket from payments meant for extras and added fake agencies.

Shange is facing charges of cyber forgery, uttering, fraud, and theft while she was working as a casting director for Rhythm World Production when the alleged crimes occurred in March. She was also involved with Masakhane Casting and Make Your Art (Pty) Ltd. Shange’s role was to recruit actors to perform as extras in various productions. But when Rhythm World paid her, she allegedly kept the funds. She is accused of taking R700,000. Shange also allegedly tampered with invoices by changing the banking details. She reportedly replaced the real casting agencies with unknown names, meaning those who did the work never got paid. The Gauteng National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane said, “We are committed to ensuring justice is served.”
