The Metro FM Awards are back in Mpumalanga! The South African Broadcasting Corporation’s (SABC) top commercial radio station, METRO FM, tonight officially announced the launch of the METRO FM Music Awards 2025 (MMAs) in Mpumalanga. The Mpumalanga Provincial Government and The Motsepe Foundation, have once again partnered with METRO FM to deliver yet another exhilarating edition of the renowned awards ceremony.
The launch brought together partners, key stakeholders, clients, and advertisers to celebrate the start of METRO FM’s awards season.
It was revealed that this year, the awards will take place on Saturday, 03 May 2025, at Mbombela Stadium. Leading up to the awards, the nominees’ announcement event will take place on Thursday, 27 February 2025, where all the nominees in the respective categories will be revealed.
The MMAs are a prestigious event that recognizes and celebrates the best in South African music.
According to Ms Nada Wotshela, SABC Group Executive: Radio, “The METRO FM Music Awards have a significant impact on the South African music industry and the country at large. Last year’s event was a huge success, and we are excited to build on that momentum this year. The awards provide a platform for artists to showcase their talent and for music lovers to celebrate the best in South African music.”
She further stated, “We would like to thank the Mpumalanga Provincial Government for their unwavering support and commitment over the past two years of the awards. This partnership, which has been mutually beneficial, has also ensured that as the SABC, we have also contributed positively to the economic development of the province, through showcasing the magnificent tourist destinations the province has to offer, filling up hotels and smaller lodges, supporting local businesses especially those in fashion and beauty industries, and showcasing local artists. We also appreciate The Motsepe Foundation for once again coming on board to support the awards, as music and fashion go hand in hand, we welcome the participation of the AFI brand, and we look forward to what they have in store for this edition of the awards.”
The Mpumalanga Provincial Government is also committed to making this year’s event a memorable one.
Ms Leah Mabuza, the MEC for the Department of Culture, Sport and Recreation in Mpumalanga said, “We wish to heartily thank Metro FM for providing us with an opportunity to showcase Mpumalanga Province as a competitive destination of choice, but also a gateway to SADC economies”.
