Although Tasha Cobbs will continue in Cape Town, her Durban show has been cancelled
Tis the season for live concerts in South Africa. Spring has sprung, the short sleeves, crop tops, and bum shorts are out. Promoters have also lined up a series of events and many have secured international artists. The DStv Delicious Food Festival is one of the events that comes highly recommended with its impeccable organisation and lineup. Other promotion companies have this week promised to bring international stars such as Burna Boy, Nigerian gospel music sensation, Sinach, and US singer, Tasha Cobbs. However, Burna Boy’s concert has since been cancelled due to the shady dealings of a promoter and Tasha Cobbs also cancels her Durban booking.
On Tuesday, the Nigerian superstar Burna Boy, announced that he was postponing his South African concert scheduled for September 23 to December 16 and later updated that it was completely cancelled. This is due to alleged fraud allegations of about R10 million. A case has been opened against Sedote Nwachukwu, who is the CEO of a prominent entertainment company, Ternary Media Group, who was in charge of organising the Burna Boy concert.
The cancellation bug also bit other events. Tasha Cobbs performed on 21 September at the SunBet Arena in Tshwane and is set to perform in Cape Town on 22 September. The Gracefully Broken singer’s performance in KwaZulu-Natal has however been canceled due to the promoters not standing by their words. In a video on social media, Tasha shared her disappointment. “I am so disappointed and so sad about our Durban show which has been cancelled by the promoter,” she captioned the post. “I am so disappointed and so sad about our Durban show which has been cancelled by the promoter. I was super excited to come to Durban.” While Durbanites were looking forward to the sing-alongs, the star was not backing down. “The promoter did not uphold his end, such as booking hotels and flights. This is a publicist’s worst nightmare. I wanted to share the truth. It is well beyond what we are in control of. Unfortunately, the promoter has not held up his.”
The event organiser of Revival Train Concert from TRT Media, Buti Elliot Mtembu however guarantees full refunds stating that they understand the disappointment caused by the cancellation. “We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this cancellation may caused.
