The singer called her gin brand Controversy, and Season 3 of the SAFTA-winning Showmax Original reality series is going to get Twitter buzzing, if the explosive first episode is anything to go by.

In just 25 minutes, we see Kelly give her ex, Jub Jub, the middle finger over his Mother’s Day message; bring Somizi to tears at her first gospel concert since lockdown; and complain to her bestie Wanda Baloyi about having “the sh*ttiest in-laws ever,” who she claims doubted the paternity of both her children and “went to the witchdoctor to get rid of me!”. And we haven’t even mentioned the part where Kelly is told to “Go f* yourself” by a man while waiting for the lift up to Alto 234 in Sandton, the highest urban bar in Africa.

We also see Kelly interviewed by 702 presenter Relebogile Mabotja about the rise in calls to cancel her alongside the release of a true-crime documentary series about the death of Senzo Meyiwa as his trial was about to start. “The noise is external; it has absolutely nothing to do with me,” says Kelly.

Despite the ongoing conspiracy theories, Kelly’s career has never been better: her SAMA-nominated album The Voice of Africa went gold, the AFRIMA-nominated Empini became the biggest hit of her career and went quadruple platinum, Esphambanweni went double platinum and Ngathwala Ngaye went platinum.

“It just tells you that if you connect with people spiritually, success is inevitable, because people can relate to what you’re singing about, and they listen to your music on a daily basis,” she says in a video message to fans posted on Showmax’s YouTube channel today. “Thank you. I appreciate your love and support and most importantly your prayers and your positive words when the going gets hard. You constantly remind me: ‘Never forget who you are, never forget how powerful you are, and never forget that you are loved, that you are supported.’ So hey man, I love you guys.”
