He has been living in the USA for a year. TV presenter Luyanda Potwana ditched his South African life as a broadcaster to start anew in the USA.
The Eastern Cape-born former Nyan Nyan presenter now works at the Burundi Embassy, led by H.E. Ambassador J.B. Barege, in Washington, D.C., USA.
He shared how one decision to move overseas changed his life.
“After COVID-19, all industries in South Africa were badly affected – including the media industry (particularly the national broadcaster – SABC). My TV show, with all its high ratings, was one of the productions that went off air.
He did not want to start going to auditions for new TV shows.
“I didn’t want to live my life hopping from one audition to another, being a family man, at age 40. I tried a few other things with not much success — at some point, I even considered going into politics, he said.
“But I knew that I was going to go into politics for the wrong reasons when I heard the Commander-in-Chief of the Economic Freedom Fighters (S.J. Malema) dissuading people from joining politics as careerists, basically wanting to be stomach politicians.”
This was happening while he was attending to his spiritual calling.
“While all this was happening, I was busy dealing with my spiritual calling, navigating through my spiritual journey, and trying to find my own path and identity, he said.
“While transitioning from ubugqirha (sangoma) to my true calling, under the guidance of Prophet Mkhwananzi KwaGubhuza, Port Shepstone in KZN. One revelation led to another, and ultimately, I left my beloved country to start completely over. It’s just been over a year now in a foreign land, and all I can say is that the journey continues — and the book is still being written. I’m happy with the permanent job I have in diplomacy, and I am trusting God for the greater blessings that I believe are coming.”
He advised people to never be afraid to start over and reinvent themselves.
“Never be afraid to start over — life is in seasons, but those seasons do not change God and what He has planned for you. What is born of defeat is perseverance – and with it survival.”
