A 44-year-old Nigerian national was arrested after being found with drugs valued at R19 million.

This came about after a truck was stopped and searched on the N1 near the Huguenot tunnel, on Tuesday evening, 30 September 2025 at about 19:00.

The seizure disrupted the supply chain of illicit drugs, protecting communities and support efforts to eradicate substance abuse.

Police in Paarl follow up intelligence driven information about a truck that allegedly transported drugs from Johannesburg to Cape Town.

The truck was spotted near the Huguenot Tunnel by members of the Paarl Highway Patrol, Boland K9 and Provincial Traffic.

The members stopped and searched the truck and seized 55.8kg tik to the street value of R16 367 814 and 30,5 kg cocaine to the street value of R3 863 435.

A 44-year-old Nigerian national was arrested on drug related charges and will appear before the Paarl Magistrate’s Court once charged.

Western Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General (Adv.) Thembisile Patekile applauded all role players involved, who assisted police to remove the drugs from the streets and the accused from society.
