Renowned actor Mondli Thusi, born and raised in Newcastle, KwaZulu-Natal, is set to premiere his biggest role yet.
On Friday, 5 December, Thusi will make his debut on South Africa’s iconic soap opera, Generations: The Legacy. He joins the cast as Isaac, a no-nonsense detective whose arrival promises to shake up storylines and “flip the script” on the long-running show. For the actor, this milestone is nothing short of a dream fulfilled.
“Growing up, I watched Generations and longed to be among the A-list actors and actresses showcasing their God-given talent on this prestigious show. That is why I have worked so hard to fulfil this dream because, as they say, if you can dream it, you can live it,” Thusi reflected.
His acting journey has already seen him grace some of the country’s biggest productions. He currently appears on e.tv’s popular drama Smoke and Mirrors, and has featured in Scandal, Isibaya, Ubethina Wethu, as well as several locally produced films. His career began in broadcasting at Newcastle Community Radio, where he worked his way up from radio personality and news reporter to programmes manager. After leaving radio, he joined his cousin Musa Mseleku’s production company, Thanx Ma Productions, as an intern on the hit reality show Uthando Nesthembu. There, he gained valuable behind-the-scenes experience in television.
Auditions soon followed, and Thusi landed his first acting role as a police officer in Isibaya on Mzansi Magic. Since then, he has expanded his repertoire, also working as a master of ceremonies at events. In addition to his acting career, Thusi is the founder of Stars of Africa Media, a talent recruitment agency representing actors, models, and creatives. The company has collaborated with productions such as The Queen, Ubethina Wethu, and Pimville, further cementing his influence in the entertainment industry.
With his latest role on Generations: The Legacy, Mondli Thusi steps into the spotlight of South Africa’s most-watched soap opera, marking a new chapter in a career defined by perseverance, versatility, and passion.
