Seven male suspects, aged between 18 and 40, have been arrested following a brutal mob justice incident in which an unknown man was assaulted to death.

The incident happened in Masakaneng under the Groblersdal policing area on Thursday night, 20 November 2025.

According to preliminary reports, at approximately 18:45, a group of community members from Motetema allegedly drove to Masakaneng where they forcefully took an unknown male from a rental property. The victim was accused of stealing copper cables in the Motetema area.

The group allegedly assaulted the man and later found a plastic bag containing copper cables. Instead of handing the matter over to the police, the suspects reportedly continued with acts of vigilantism. It is further alleged that the driver of a bakkie, after the victim was severely assaulted, transported him to a nearby clinic. The mob allegedly refused to proceed to the police station and instructed an unidentified individual to drive the bakkie into the clinic premises. The victim was declared dead on arrival.

A manhunt was immediately activated following the incident, leading to the arrest of the seven suspects in the early hours of Friday, 21 November 2025. They are all facing charges of murder.

The suspects are expected to appear before the Motetema Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 24 November 2025.

The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has strongly condemned the incident, warning communities against taking the law into their own hands.

“Vigilantism has no place in our society. Community members must work with the police and allow the justice system to function. We will not tolerate acts of mob justice, and those involved will face the full might of the law,” said Lieutenant General Hadebe. Police investigations are ongoing.
