A 49-year-old female police officer, Sergeant Salome Kgoroba, attached to the SAPS Sekhukhune District, briefly appeared before the Groblersdal Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 17 November 2025.

She faces a charge of murder following the fatal shooting of her 31-year-old brother-in-law at her residence in Groblersdal town during the early hours of Sunday, 16 November 2025, at about 02:00. The case was postponed to Friday, 21 November 2025, for a formal bail application.

Police were alerted to an incident in which a male victim was admitted to a local hospital with a gunshot wound. He was later transferred to Philadelphia Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment.

A case of murder was opened, and an investigation led to the identification of the suspect as a police officer stationed in Sekhukhune District. She was traced and arrested, and her state-issued firearm was confiscated for further forensic analysis.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect was asleep when she allegedly heard someone opening the door and believed an intruder had entered her home. She reportedly fired several shots toward the door. Upon checking, she discovered that she had shot her brother-in-law. She immediately transported the victim to the hospital.

The case has been transferred to the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) for further investigation.
