This prestigious honour not only marks a significant personal milestone for Dr. Ncinitwa but also highlights his invaluable contributions to the South African media landscape, particularly in community broadcasting.
Dr. Ncinitwa’s journey began in 2007 when he joined Soweto TV as a researcher. With relentless determination and strategic insight, he quickly rose through the ranks, showcasing his exceptional leadership qualities and deep passion for amplifying local voices. Under his stewardship as Head of Channel, Soweto TV has solidified its reputation as a leading urban community broadcaster, serving as a vital platform for information, education, and cultural expression within the community it represents.
The roots of Dr. Ncinitwa’s legacy are traced back to 13 December 2010, when he conceptualized and produced the first-ever audio-visual podcast in Africa, “Street Radio.”
This ground-breaking show was presented by Rufus Rhee Moremi and Nompumelelo Ndlovukazi Mnisi, captivating audiences and setting a precedent for digital storytelling in South Africa. Featuring illustrious personalities such as Julius Malema, Nomzamo Mbatha, Lady Du, Ntando Duma, the late Goodenough Sithole the man who coined the phrase “is not make sure” on this Podcast. Street Radio resonated with viewers and quickly became the most-watched program on the channel.
Dr. Ncinitwa credits much of his success to the support of Mr. Thabo Molefe, who encouraged him not to stop opening himself up to learning. This guidance has profoundly shaped his approach to leadership and innovation, driving him to explore new frontiers within the broadcasting industry.
As the podcast grew in popularity, Lawrence Maleka and Kamo Bombe took the reins, with Kamoo Letsosa further establishing her reputation on the platform. This lineage of excellence underscores the collaborative spirit at Soweto TV, where talent and creativity flourish.
