Police have rescued a kidnapped victim and recovered an AK-47 rifle with scores of ammunition after stopping a suspicious vehicle with five occupants on the R80 highway in Rosslyn, Tshwane on Friday, 10 October 2025.
Police from Tshwane Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit were driving on R80 highway when they noticed a white Golf 7 with five suspicious looking occupants. Upon testing the vehicle, it came out as a different make.
The vehicle was stopped and inside there was a man who was handcuffed with his face covered.
Upon interviewing the man, it was established that he was kidnapped at Wonderboompoort, where he was stopped with blue lights and siren. The vehicle was further searched and an AK-47 rifle, scores of live rounds of ammunition, dashboard blue lights, cable ties, vehicle siren and T-Shirts with police emblem were found.
All four suspects were arrested and charged with kidnapping, possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition as well as impersonating a police officer. They are expected to appear before Pretoria North Magistrate Court on Monday, 13 October 2025.
Investigation is underway to establish if the suspects are not linked to other serious and violent crimes.
