Award-winning actress Lunathi Mampofu invited a dynamic group of women, including prominent media figures and celebrity friends, to a powerful Women’s Self-Defence Workshop hosted by her organisation, My Defense.

Founded by Lunathi and her sister Uhuru Mzamo, My Defense is a grassroots initiative aimed at equipping women with the skills, confidence, and community support to defend themselves in a country where gender-based violence (GBV) remains one of the most pressing social crises.

The recent workshop brought together a powerhouse of female voices and advocates in a safe and energising space — where women came together to learn, connect, and recharge.

The session featured a hands-on self-defence class led by expert instructors Darren Morris, Ludumo Lamati and Achene Djaroun from Ringside Gym, followed by a calming yoga cooldown session guided by wellness coach Britt Jansen from Flow and Scent, offering both physical empowerment and emotional restoration.

Celebrity friends in attendance included Zenande Mfenyana, Kgomotso Christopher, and several cast members of the hit show Inimba, among others — all lending their voices and presence in solidarity with the cause.

“We created My Defense because every woman deserves to feel safe, strong, and supported,” said Lunathi Mampofu. “This is more than just self-defence — it’s a movement of healing, empowerment, and sisterhood. Thank you to our sponsors Sela for better health, Kelloggs, Pura, Knox, The Perfect Hair, Curls in Bloom, Cantu Beauty, Wet and Wild”.

As My Defense continues to grow, more workshops and community events are planned across the country, expanding its impact and reach.
