Last year, Sicelo Ngwenya, popularly known as S’Villa announced that he had left Ambitiouz Entertainment. He and other artists Blaq Diamond, Fifi Cooper, Emtee, and Sjava to name a few left the label desolate and has since closed shop. S’Villa has since opened his own label, Villa Music Group, and released his first single.
He tells Buzz Life News that he is currently the only artist signed under the label, but he is looking to find brand-new talent. “I’m the only artist that’s currently signed under my record label. The idea is to learn how to run the business, get my hands dirty before I bring in more artists, which is something that I plan to do at a later stage,” he says. “For now I’m just basking in the blessing of being my own boss, releasing music that I love and know people will enjoy too.”
His first single under the new label is titled, Ngiyak’dinga. “It is a heartfelt, nostalgic tune that speaks about the pain of missing someone dear to your heart,” he says. “It’s written in such a way that anyone can relate to it; be it a distant loved one, be it someone that’s passed on, a dear friend, a relative, we all have people that we miss dearly but cannot be with them for so many reasons.”
S’Villa decided to start his label after being with Ambitiouz since 2017. “I decided to open my own record label because I felt it was time for me to grow as an artist and an entrepreneur in the entertainment industry,” he says. “I want to be in control of my creative work. The technology today allows us to reach our fans much easier which is something I felt I could do on my own with the help of a small team of course and to cut out the middleman which is your “traditional” record label setting.”
He is in no rush to sign new stars. “Because of my past experiences, once I start signing artists, Villa Music Group will be a hub for up-and-coming artists to learn about the entertainment industry, “he says. “Artists will be given the knowledge to be able to run their own record labels transparently and be able to pass that knowledge down to artists that come after them.”
