Thandiswa Mazawai’s new single Kulungile, featuring Nduduzo Makhathini is out on all streaming platforms. Her new album Sankofa will be celebrated at Big Top Carnival City 11 May. The singer says this new upcoming project would not be possible without her producer Nduduzo Makhathii and the gentleman whom she worked with.
She penned a heartfelt note expressing her gratitude. “My rocks! My brother-producer without whom none of this would be possible,” she said. “He held my hand throughout, helped me write, helped me think, and just showed love. I will forever be indebted to you Makhathini. Your your playing, your voice, your guidance. Love to you.”
She went on to say, “The thing about a great producer is that they really bring themselves to the work. And to have the brilliance of this brother with me throughout is something I can never be thankful enough for.” Thandiswa added that the main ingredient to any great work for her is love. “Well, anyone who knows Makhathini knows about his dedication and love. Big love to you Gxabhashe,” she said. “Big love also to the maestro, master engineer Peter Pearlson for all the late nights in studio recording. Thank you for your gentle support and patience with me. Lord knows it’s not easy going through take after taking with someone as finicky as I am.”
Thandiswa said, the title of her album Sankofa, “In the Ghanian language Twi means to go back and fetch what’s been left behind – what is important, what honours you, and what needs healing. Kulungile is about healing some of the traumas that we experience as children. Many of us have faced rejection, abandonment, and sexual violence. This song is for that child within that seeks justice, comfort and healing.”
She will be releasing her much-awaited album Sankofa in May 2024. This will be celebrated with an exciting performance at Carnival City, Johannesburg on 11 May. The show will also include songs from Zabalaza, Thandiswa’s iconic debut solo album, which turns 20 today. Tickets are available at Computicket.
