Not long ago, Beyoncé and Jay-Z offered free concert tickets for 30 years to fans who commit to being vegan.
Being vegan means excluding meat, eggs, dairy products, and all other animal-derived ingredients in your food. Many vegans do not eat foods that are processed using animal products, such as refined white sugar and some wines, and they often avoid clothing, cosmetics, and medicine that are made with animal derived substances. Donald Watson, a founding member of the Vegan Society coined the term vegan in 1944 while living in the United Kingdom.
Other stars who are on a vegan or plant based diet include:
Serena Williams
Tennis champion, Serena went on a strict diet after giving birth to daughter Alexis Olympia. “I was vegan, I didn’t eat sugar,” she told reporters at a Wimbledon press event in July, according to the Daily Mail. Her strict diet didn’t start to show results until she stopped breastfeeding an she lost 10 pounds in a week and kept dropping.
Miley Cyrus
Miley has an animal lover and is so committed to being vegan that she got a symbol for veganism tattooed on her body. “Vegan for life!” she shared on Instagram when she got the tat in 2017. She has been however reported to have ditched the vegan life to be Pescatarian.
Jhené Aiko
She went vegan once for about six months because of some health problems. “Changing my diet like that made me feel like I had so much more energy.” But she admitted that being vegan was a lot of work: “At one point, I was going to a place that’s really far from my house to get all-vegan everything. My goal is to totally be completely vegan and only use vegan products, but I have to work on it daily.”
Ariana Grande
Ariana told The Mirror some few years ago that her love of animals inspired her to go vegan. “I love animals more than I love most people,” she said. “It is tricky dining out, but I just stick to what I know—veggies, fruit, and salad–then when I get home, I’ll have something else.”
Erykah Badu
Singer and mom of three told People magazine that she’s been on a vegan diet since 1997. “It’s just what’s best for my body. If I was a Lamborghini I would want to put the best gas in it,” she said. Her diet includes cold-pressed juices, fruits, vegetables, and whole grains like quinoa.
Ellen Degeneres
Ellen has been vegan since 2008. She told Yahoo many years ago that, “I’ve always called myself an animal lover. And yet I ate them,” But she said “something snapped,” once she learned how chicken and other meat products are made. Ellen has noted that she’s a little more flexible these days. “In the last year or two for no real reason, I started eating a piece of fish once in a while. Or I’ll eat eggs from chickens I know—if they are in someone’s backyard or are happy.”
